MagnetStory Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 27, 2026
Overview
This privacy policy applies to the MagnetStory app (hereby referred to as "Application") for mobile devices that was created by Clare Zhou (hereby referred to as "Service Provider") as a Freemium service. This service is intended for use "AS IS".
What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?
The Application does not require account registration to use its core features. Most content you create in the app, such as item images, notes, memories, and optional location details, is stored locally on your device unless you choose to use Apple services such as iCloud or in-app purchases.
For an enhanced and personalized experience, the Application offers optional features that may require access to certain functionalities or data on your device. These features are not fundamental to the Application's core use, and you can choose not to use them or opt out at any time through your device settings without affecting the Application's primary functionality.
To help improve the Application, we collect limited app usage analytics. This analytics data is used to understand product usage and feature performance, such as app opens, home screen views, onboarding progress, item creation and viewing, scan usage, paywall views, and completed purchases.
The analytics data we send does not include user-entered content or direct identifiers. In particular, we do not send item names, story text, exact location text, image filenames, UUIDs, contact information, payment card information, or Apple ID information. We send only limited event metadata such as platform, feature source, premium status, plan type, permission state, and count buckets such as how many items or media items are associated with an action. Here’s how these specific accesses are handled:
Analytics
We use Aptabase, a privacy-focused analytics service provider, to receive this limited usage data. This analytics data is used only for product analytics and is not used for advertising, profiling, or cross-app tracking. We do not use this analytics data to identify you personally, and we do not intentionally link it to your identity.
Camera Access for Augmented Reality (AR) Purposes
If you choose to use AR features, the Application will request access to your device's camera. This access is solely for the real-time display of AR content, and any processing is done locally on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit any images, videos, or other data from your camera.
Photo Library Access for Photo Selection
On iOS and visionOS, you may choose to select an image from your photo library to be used locally within the Application, such as a custom background or a reference image. This process is managed through your device's operating system, such as Apple's photo picker.
The Application does not access your entire photo album, nor does it collect or store any photos or metadata from your library. The selected image is used only locally on your device as per your choice.
Location
The Application does not collect precise information about the location of your mobile device.
The Application does not collect precise real-time location information from your device for analytics. If you add location-related content to an item, that user-entered or app-associated location content is not sent through the analytics system.
iCloud Sync
Where iCloud sync is used, related data is handled through Apple's iCloud services and your Apple ID. The Service Provider does not collect, access, or store your Apple ID information.
In-App Purchases (IAP)
The Application may offer optional in-app purchases. All such transactions are processed securely by Apple through its App Store, using your Apple ID.
We do not collect, access, or store any of your financial information, credit card details, or Apple ID information. This is handled entirely by Apple, and your purchase relationship is with Apple.
All data related to these optional features, where access is granted by you, is processed locally on your device. You retain control and can revoke permissions for camera or photo library access at any time through your device's system settings. Similarly, interaction with Apple Music and In-App Purchases is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policies.
Does the Application collect precise real time location information of the device?
This Application does not collect precise information about the location of your mobile device.
Do third parties see or have access to information obtained by the Application?
Yes, limited analytics data is processed by our analytics service provider, Aptabase, solely to help us understand app usage and improve the Application. We do not sell personal information and we do not share app analytics data for third-party advertising or tracking.
Apple may also process information when you use Apple-provided services such as the App Store, in-app purchases, or iCloud, subject to Apple’s own terms and privacy policies.
What are my opt-out rights?
You have control over the information and features you engage with in the Application.
Opting Out of Optional Features and Permissions
Features requiring access to your device's Camera for AR purposes, Photo Library for image selection, or Apple Music account for music selection are optional and require your explicit permission. You can decline to grant these permissions when prompted by your iOS or visionOS device.
If you have previously granted permission, you can revoke access for the Application to your Camera, Photo Library, or Apple Music at any time through your device's system settings, usually found under Settings > Privacy & Security, or by managing permissions for the specific Application.
Opting out of these permissions will disable the specific related features, such as AR functionality, custom backgrounds, or in-app Apple Music playback, but you will still be able to use the Application's other functionalities. The Application is designed so that these optional features are not fundamental to its core use.
In-App Purchases
In-App Purchases are optional. You are not required to make any purchases to use the fundamental features of the Application. Decisions to make In-App Purchases are managed by you through your Apple ID and Apple's App Store interface.
Stopping All Application Activity
You can stop all activity and access by the Application by uninstalling it. You may use the standard uninstall processes available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network, such as the App Store. Uninstalling the Application will remove it and its locally stored settings from your device.
Since the Application does not require registration and the developer does not collect or store your personal information from the use of its core or optional features, uninstalling the Application is the definitive way to cease all interaction with the Application. For data handled by Apple, such as IAP transaction history or Apple Music usage, please refer to Apple's privacy policies and account management tools.

The Application is not used to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13.
The Service Provider does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. The Service Provider encourages all children to never submit any personally identifiable information through the Application and/or Services.
